The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 American psychological horror film regularly cited as one of the greatest and most influential films. Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee who is hunting a serial killer. The original poster was designed by BLT Communications and features a pale Clarice with her mouth “silenced” by a death’s-head hawkmoth. While the moth species is real, the artists of the poster enhanced the moth’s pattern by hiding Salvador Dali’s In Voluptas Mors in the skull on the moth—a reference to the complexity and culturedness of various characters in the film.
