The Journey Into Imagination pavilion opened at the EPCOT Center in 1982—and it’s where a jolly wizard-like scientist teaches a purple dragon named Figment how to use his imagination. Figment is meant to be the literal embodiment of the phrase “figment of the imagination”. Figment is described in detail as “Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow, horns of a steer, but a lovable fellow. From head to tail, he’s royal purple pigment, and there, voila, you’ve got a Figment.” Figment was my family’s favorite Disney character. Our boat was named the Figment and had the friendly purple dragon painted on the hull.
