Viva La Velorution! (2013)
Original poster design by Josh Higgins

ARTCRANK is an international art show that stages live events featuring bicycle-inspired posters created by local artists. Each ARTCRANK show features the work of 30 or more artists who live and work in the host city. Artists create an original poster design about bikes and what cycling means in their lives. This poster was done by Josh Higgins, a humble designer from SoCal who got his design start at Studio Conover in San Diego, and quick skyrocketed to design fame as the creative director for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

The original poster has a small inscription that reads “California | Los Angeles | Viva La Velorution!” – and if there is one word that would describe the bike friendly movements that have taken place in LA since I became a resident in 2006 – it is velorution. This may not have been the inspiration behind Josh’s poster, but to this Angeleno, it’s a thank you for all the hard work we have done to encourage positive cycling growth among citizens, drivers and city officials.
